Health & Safety

Safety at Every Stage

Protecting our people, clients, the public and the environment through careful planning, effective risk management and accountable project delivery.

Our Approach to Health and Safety

Civilink NZ is committed to providing safe and healthy working environments for our employees, subcontractors, clients and members of the public. Health and safety is integrated into every stage of our work, from project planning and site establishment through to construction, reinstatement and completion. We identify hazards, assess risks, implement appropriate controls and review site conditions throughout each project. Our work is planned and carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, applicable New Zealand regulations, approved project requirements and relevant industry guidance. We also consult, cooperate and coordinate with clients, contractors, network operators and other PCBUs where responsibilities overlap.

How We Keep Our Sites Safe

Site-Specific Safety Planning

Site-Specific Safety Plans, task risk assessments and pre-start briefings are completed to identify hazards and establish appropriate controls before work begins.

Underground Service Location and Protection

Existing underground services are identified using available plans, utility information, site mark-outs and service proving before excavation or drilling begins.

Safe Excavation and Trenching

Excavation risks are managed through appropriate ground support, safe access, exclusion zones, inspections and controls suited to the depth, ground conditions and surrounding infrastructure.

Temporary Traffic Management

Road corridor works are planned using a risk-based temporary traffic management approach, in accordance with applicable road controlling authority requirements and approved traffic management documentation.

Competent People and Safe Equipment

Work is completed by appropriately trained, competent and authorised personnel. Plant and equipment are subject to pre-start checks, planned maintenance and safe operating procedures.

Communication and Emergency Readiness

Toolbox meetings, site communication, worker participation, emergency procedures and incident reporting processes are maintained throughout each project. Workers are encouraged to stop work and raise concerns whenever conditions are unsafe.

Standards and Industry Guidance

Info

Civilink NZ plans and carries out its work in accordance with applicable New Zealand health and safety legislation, approved project requirements and relevant industry guidance.

Depending on the scope and location of the work, our health and safety planning is informed by the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, WorkSafe New Zealand's Excavation Safety Good Practice Guidelines, and the New Zealand Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (NZGTTM).

These requirements and guidelines support our approach to project planning, risk assessment, excavation safety, underground utility protection and temporary traffic management.

Everyone has a role in keeping our sites safe.

We encourage open communication, active worker participation and early reporting of hazards so that risks can be addressed before work continues.
